New law gives foster children
school stability
New Jersey's foster children now have the right to stay in their
current school when entering foster care or changing placements, if remaining
in that school is in the child's best interest, under a bill recently signed
into law by Governor Christie.
Previously, children entering a foster home attended school in the
foster parents' district. This new law is expected to provide these
vulnerable children with educational stability that can help them succeed in
school.
ACNJ will be providing more information on the details of the new law
and how caregivers and others can advocate for the educational stability of
children living in foster care.
Read the law.
